Cargo bikes are necessary to carry more stuff like kids or kids with more stuff or more kids with even more stuff or just loads of stuff that a normal bike couldn't possibly carry. You don't really need a car when you have one of these for small town trips unless you need to frequently transport granny and another new fridge simultaneously although some would argue that you still can do it with a cargo bike.
